Queens Road - Vi Higgs has Good News
22nd May 2018
Councillor Vi Higgs writes,
"Over the past couple of years, our publications have featured several articles about the former garage site in Queens Road on the Walshes estate. There have been problems there, which we have sought to resolve with the aid of several public bodies. We believe we have had some success.
On the brighter side we knew that the owner, Community Housing, planned to redevelop the site, including the demolition of the existing shops and flats that have a frontage on to the street. We have supported this project and at ward-councillor, working-party and District Council Labour Group levels.
Now we can state that 30 family homes are planned for construction here in the financial year 2019/20.
Also, new provision locally is planned for the businesses in the shopping parade, but we understand that negotiations are not yet underway.
We stop short of claiming the credit for the go-ahead of this Community Housing project : obviously, there have been high-level decisions taken about its viability. However, we are pleased to have had our say. We look forward to 30 new much-needed homes being available on the Walshes and for local shopping to continue to be available."
